The early history of poker

The game of poker dates back more than ten centuries and is believed to have evolved from a wide range of various card games. Although poker has used these other card games in its evolution it has always held its basic principles high card rankings and also the use of bluffs to deceive opposing players. There has been speculation that the Chinese were the founders of the game with historical data tracing the origins of the game as far back as nine hundred and sixty nine where it is believed that the emperor of the time Mu Tsung was a keen player as he used to play it with his wife. The Egyptians are also noted in history for participating in card games of this type with data suggesting they were avid fans of such games during the twelfth century.

In the sixteenth century the Persians would also play these sorts of card games where they were called `Ganijfa` or `treasure cards`. Ganijfa card games consisted of ninety six cards per deck which were usually made from very thin slices of precious wood or for the more upper class ivory. The most popular card game of that era was named `As Nas` which would use twenty five of the cards where there would be various rounds of betting using these then new cards. The French during the seventeenth and eighteenth century created their own version of these games which they called `Poque`, the Germans also had a game of this sort which they aptly named `Pochen`. Both of these games were derived from the sixteenth century Spanish game called `Primero` where each player would be dealt three cards where the players would bluff or place high stake bets to deceive their opponent. The game Primero dates all the way back to fifteen twenty seven where it was played frequently and for many is the birth place and time of the now hugely popular poker.

There are many online Poker websites, we have shortlisted a few of our favourites, such as Poker Online – www.virginpoker.it – An Italian based Poker games website and Virgin Poker – www.virgingames.com/poker/ – A UK based Poker website.

The game of poker during the eighteenth century was exported to the new world by French colonials as this was one of their favorite pass times and before long it had spread from Louisiana all the way up the Mississippi river and eventually the whole country. One of the earliest references to the game poker dates back to eighteen thirty four where Jonathon Green published in his writings that he called it `the cheating game`. This `cheating game` spread like wildfire across the globe and gave birth to the now famous gambling circuit. Nearly all gamers embraced this new game as they believed it was more challenging and ultimately more honest than its predecessor `the three card game` which was widely thought of as rigged.

During the days of the Wild West poker became an overnight phenomenon with poker tables readily available at all saloons in nearly every town across the US. During the period of the civil war poker was even more popular as soldiers of both of the armies played the game during their free time. It took two centuries but eventually poker became the ultimate in gambling activities for all who played it and its popularity has increased in strength from year to year. People now see poker as a way to use tactics and other methods to increase their wealth as well as providing many intellectuals with an extra opportunity to test their knowledge and methods.

The ways to Win at Poker are very varied indeed, so we thought we would publish and update a list of known ways to increase your chances of Winning at Poker.

Firstly ensure the Poker players are honest and that the poker playing cards are New.

Preferable from a Sealed Pack, as this ensure Fair Play, as well as unmarked cards.

Also we recommend you read up on the Type of poker game, there are many great Poker playing books available either by purchasing online or by visiting your local library.

In addition we also recommend that When you have a bad hand, with zero chance of winning, it is often better to Fold a few times, so as to confuse and bemuse your player partners.

Then when you have a few more hands played, we recommend the occassional “Bluff” Where you pretend to be excited with your hand.

Using Smiles, as well as opening your eyes wider can also assist in convincing the other players that you have a really good hand. The trick is not to keep on Bluffing as they will soon Catch you out, and do the same.

In addition we always recommend you understand the winning hands fully, as well as watching the cards as they appear, this way you can gain knowledge on what cards the players actually have, by eliminating a Jack or Queen as they are placed on the Deck. If you have for example 3 Jacks, you know that the other players cant have anymore, especially if the other Jack is on the Table.

We will be adding more Tips on how to win at poker every day, so please re-visit frequently for more innovative Tips.

The team at The Poker Syndicate have duly completed a Novice guide on How to Play Poker

Beginners guide on Omaha poker

This is a short guide on how to understand and play Omaha poker.

First players need to designate a dealer. This is usually done by drawing high cards or rolling dice.

Players then start a new hand by posting two blind bets. The player directly to the left of the dealer will post the small blind, This bet is always 50% of the minimum stake. We then continue with the player to the left of the small blind posting the big blind which is the minimum stake allowed.

After the above actions have been followed the additional players need not place a bet until they have received their cards. As the dealer is rotated to the left each hand you will find every player has the chance to play the small or big blind.

Once the blinds are completed each player at the table is dealt four cards picture down on the table, these are called the `hole` cards. The game will then continue with the player to the left of the big blind either calling, raising or folding. This continues until the hand reaches the player who placed the small blind. Once this player is reached he has the option to call, raise or fold.

Next is the big blind player, If nobody has raised during the previous blind then this player will be offered the chance to check. Checking is a way of passing on your go without putting any stake into the pot but can only be done if the pot has not been raised.

We then continue to the `flop`. Three cards are dealt to the table face up.

Then comes another round of betting starting from the player left of the dealer and continues as the previous round of betting.

The dealer then continues onto the `turn` card which is again placed face up on the table.

Another round of betting is done as before.

We then move onto the final card to be placed face up on the game table, this is called the `river` card.

For the final time of the game we now again complete a round of betting.

The players who are still left in the game will now choose the best two of their hole cards and three of the community cards to make their strongest hand. The cards are then all shown and the winner is announced. This is called the `showdown`
